This seasonally rainy weather in Vancouver has me wanting to drink and eat my way to sunnier days! Well, to be honest, that’s all I really want to do most days, but the rainy weather especially has me longing for comfort foods, and sweet libations that will put me into a good mood despite the rain.
There are a lot of great happy hours in Vancouver, so much so, that I don’t have time to list them all. This list from Fabulously Frugal in Vancouver does a good job of indexing them. I’m listing some great happy hours, meaty with food selections, so you can eat to your heart’s content and not have to worry about breaking the bank! This is a pro for pricey Vancouver, as it’s one of the most expensive cities in North American to call home. Vancouver is one of the most expensive cities in North America to live, and that reflected in the quality of life. However, that doesn’t mean you have to go broke. With happy hour specials, you can enjoy a meal at a nice restaurant and not have to break the bank
A fancy happy hour.
3-6 pm everyday
Yaletown is known for its young adult appeal, where stylish professionals come to let off a little steam and look good while doing it. West Oak fits the scene, with a smartly decorated interior complemented by hushed warm lighting to set off date mode. Their happy hour consists of beer, wine and cocktail specials, as well as 50% off a generous number of appetizers. I usually just order one of everything on their appetizer menu and call it a night! Don’t miss their chinois prawn appy, a tempura fried prawn tossed in a spicy aioli, and adorned with candied walnuts. It’s worth ordering two so you don’t have to share 🙂 This is one of the nicer restaurants in Yaletown, but with their happy hour specials, you can eat your fill and not be surprised by the bill at the end of the night.
Tasty Indian Bistro
A spicy happy hour.
3 – 6 pm and 10 pm – close Mon-Sat, Sunday all day
Their Yaletown location is a relatively new restaurant to the downtown Vancouver dining scene, but I included it because the spicy Indian flavors are sure to you keep you warm and toasty! Devil’s Drumsticks, chicken tikka, and masala fries are some highlights from the happy hour menu. A lot of places in Vancouver have reverse happy hours, and TIB follows suit with happy hour from 3-6 pm and starting again at 10 pm. They only take reservations for 4 or more people and this is a popular location, so come early to be guaranteed a seat.
An everyday happy hour.
3:00 pm – 6:00 pm everyday
Reverse happy hours vary by location but usually from 9 pm – close
A google search for ‘best happy hours in Vancouver’ will always put Earls on the list, and for good reason! With buffalo cauliflower, coconut shrimp, garlic fries and several sandwiches on the menu, you can get a filling meal for a discount. They have several locations in the downtown area and throughout the province. Not to mention a ‘test kitchen’ location where you can find new menu items worth trying out before they are launched restaurant wide. I’ve also written about their Whistler location happy hour, one of my favorites! (Pictured above is their $5 Margarita Mondays special, how can you not drink two!)
Wild Tale Daily
A seafood happy hour.
3-6 pm & 10 pm – Close
Although downtown Vancouver is surrounded by water, seafood is still quite an expensive indulgence. That’s why Wildtale’s happy hour is so rare, offering several seafood options on the happy hour menu, including half priced oysters.
A value happy hour.
11:30 – 6:00 pm Everyday, 2-5 pm M-F Super Happy Hour
Who likes a good Japanese style barbeque, where you char your own meat and veggies? I do, I do! Their super happy hour menu might be hard to get to if you work regular hours, but no loss, their happy hour runs for a good six and half hours every day! Not only do they have a value fueled happy hour, but if you have their app, you earn points from their frequent dining program. Earning points gives you discounts on future dining experiences, how’s that for value!?
Impress your date type of happy hour.
3-6 pm Monday-Friday, 4-6 Saturday-Sunday
A classic Vancouver restaurant, Joe Fortes Seafood and Chop House is centrally located off Robson, a perfect location if you are perusing downtown. From 4-6 pm everyday, they have a happy hour with sizable number of food specials. Choose from mini lobster and shrimp rolls, a jumbo tiger prawn cocktail, or fried oysters and beef carpaccio. Drink specials ranging from $6.00-$7.50 round out the menu.
